Tree Fostering and Adoption

You can also help out from the comfort of your own home by joining our back garden growing program. We provide a tray of tree seedlings, some pots, soil, fertiliser and help and advice along the way. You look after the trees until they’ve grown a bit bigger and give back when ready. Keep as many as you want.

We’ve planted a number of trees around the streets of Tytherington and Bolingbrook recently.  Whilst they get established, they could do with someone to look out for them.  The main responsibilities would be watering during hot weather and reporting any mower damage. You could even go as far as to mulch an area around the tree, occasional pruning or maybe even give the tree a name.

    Corporate Volunteering

Does your company allow volunteering days for its employees?  If so, maybe a group of you could come along to our growing site at the Rossendale Trust to help for a day.  We can probably accommodate groups up to about 15. If you are interested, please get in touch.

We grow trees from locally collected seeds. When approximately two years of age the trees are given away for free to any group or individual who can provide a good home.

Our main growing site is at The Rossendale Trust, Sutton, where volunteers work all year round. There are always projects to work on, some ongoing and some specific to the time of year. Throughout the year we make compost and leaf mould, maintain the tree beds and the nursery environment. Depending on the season we are processing collected nuts and fruits, preparing tree orders, replenishing the soil and managing the growing trees.

Lots of people helping just a little bit has a big impact on the number of trees we get in the ground. This year we will be giving away 1800 trees.

A day spent with MCTN is an ideal opportunity to spend time outdoors in a relaxed but stimulating environment, enjoying physical and social activities.

Growing trees is the right thing to do for biodiversity, combating climate change and making areas nicer places to live.

A gentle request. We are a not for profit organisation, relying on volunteers, donations, recycling and grants. Your visit will make a difference to what we can achieve but if you are able to support us further please see the wishlist on the website for donations that would enable us to get more trees planted.

    Thank you.

    Other ways to help

    Poster and sign making.

There are loads of creative types of jobs that we need doing. Things like making flyers, banners, posters, labels and signs etc.

    Scrounging.

There are many things we need to enable us to grow trees. We prefer to reuse things rather than buy new.

Our wishlist is here. If you notice any of these items on Facebook and Freecycle please let us know.

    Events.

Help at one of our events, such as seed collecting, berry squishing, tree planting and maintenance.
